The Parallax Motion template is a great way to engage learners, with a truly unique effect that’s super simple to configure. You don’t need to be Picasso to create an impressive look for your lesson, and Ed’s super simple creator tool makes it easy to configure. Your learners are presented with a dynamic screen that will change based on their smartphone’s gyroscope and accelerometer, or their computer’s mouse position.
You can use the Parallax Motion template to creatively engage learners, and show off products or concepts in a way that learners aren’t used to seeing in an LMS. It’s just another way that Ed makes your learning unique and memorable.

The best way to get started in the Parallax Motion template is by using image editing software. In our example, we’re going to use Adobe Photoshop.
- Start by picking an image – product shots work well, especially if they have a transparent background.
- Next, we’re going to separate each of the objects in the image into layers – if this leaves blank space in the layers underneath, you can experiment with the healing brush, and Content-Aware Fill to fix this. Make sure you have no more than 10 layers – any more and Ed will not accept them. You can merge layers by highlighting two or more, right-clicking, and selecting “Merge Layers”.
- The magic that makes Parallax work so well is Photoshop’s “Layers to files” script. You can find this in File > Export > Layers to Files. Set a destination, and make sure “Transparency” is checked, but not “Trim Layers”. This will ensure that each image is transparent, and the exact same size – perfect for when we import them into Ed.
It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3 in Photoshop, and it’s even easier when we get into Ed.
- Select the Parallax Motion template in the template gallery – it’s under the “content” tab.
- Upload each layer of the Parallax one by one that we’ve saved in the above process – images higher up on the page are displayed towards the back. You can upload up to 10 different images.
- Once your images are looking beautiful, it’s time to add some text and/or narration. The “Caption” field will also accept markdown, so feel free to make text bigger, smaller, bold or italicised by following the guide here.
